I was expecting more comments. I thought you are interested in discussions about guard.

Santos the pup in the clip has courage and good prey you say, but not so good for guarding...
So basically we can say that the majority of GSD dogs may have courage and hyper prey drive, but if put in a situation of guarding a property on own, it may not be so tough to do the job.

What percentage of GSD have the strong nerves to deal with the pressure of an intruder jumping a fence after midnight, to approach and apply fight drive ?

I would say Grief has this abbilities..!!

Could we say training a young dog to be protective of an item and therfore have a strong desire to posses/protect, can benefit guarding instinct/personal protection..?

Eu as spune ca Greif are aceste abilitati..!!

I have seen many show GSD mixed with working GSD, be territorial but have no true guts about them, easily pushed away in corner...!
Its very rare these days to have a dog who is more than just territorial IMO.

Am vazut multe mix-uri de CG de show cu CG de lucru fiind teritoriali dar fara curaj adevarat in ei, usor de dat la oparte...!
Rar gasesti in zilele noastre un caine care este mai mult decat teritorial, in opinia mea.

MS you are very right about this, I very scarcely come across hard dogs, like I once saw in bigger numbers..  That is why i spent HOURS every day just looking over the internet for specific dogs.. we NEED to bring back the old dogs, we MUST.............

I guess being in Europe Dani you would of seen many more naturally sharper dogs, compared to what we have here in Australia..
Perhaps in a decade or so you guys(Europe) can have a strong network of like minded breeders, to bring back some Zorro type dogs..
Pre potent Male producer and tough brood bitches, with heaps of luck is the reality..!!

Oh... I hope so.. easier said than done, with all the west blood being used more and more..
I do believe most of those wanting to see that type of dog around is not in Europe anymore, but rather in the States. Not to say we don't have good dogs left over here, but one must look hard.

In the states it seems there is too many breeders taking advantage of DDR on paper and looks, but not in true overall 'character'..
If its not in Europe then you might have to go to Asia, and see some Dino offspring mixed with a bitch out of Datko.. :)

yes many do that in the states, but you got a handful dedicated to the "old temperament" too  ;)

Leo this could be one of many combo's as you know within the "D" litter.
You have some Viner offspring and the rest of the mix and matches.. You got nearly the whole roulette table covered in chips, it should be a sure winner for you to hit the jackpot..

A few is better than none Dani, and believe that with or without paper work/pure DDR or not..
If it has the hip/elbow health, rich pigment, bone size and head with natural suspicion plus confidence at maturity.. This realistically is a no nonsense way to go about it..

I guess what you are saying is, desperate times call for desperate measures and I guess to some extent I have actually done that. "compromise" is the name of the game at times.. If that's the only way to keep the "good old dogs" around, well then...............

I have put this forward to a fellow friend who has followed the GS working scene for a few years now..
But he seems to disagree with the idea of NO paper work, and that most would like to have some Blue piece of paper stating family history which could be all BS on paper and in reality..
My firm view is that if the Hip/elbow score on paper is a total score less than (10) and one can prove who the last 3 generations are made up of.. This IMO will be enough to be excepted especially if the parents are above average.. Who doesn't want a Bi colour/Black tough monster that has that DDR look about them, even though its not on paper, i say those who are able to go back to the future or have some extra spare cash lying around for Pedigree papers...!
