Flex definantly has that strong DDR look about him, the photo of him on the PDB is one of my favourites.

John was wondering why we only see a single progeny pic out of DDR Male
Irko vom Brandenburger Damm ?
He I believe was noted to be a fine example of the DDR breed.
And also being a Grandsire of Pele vom Kiebitzmoor, I thought you might have some answers..

Are we to conclude that he wasn't a good producer, or that he was not "preferred" or what?
I just wonder sometimes, how much of the breeding in the DDR was done based on taste or preference and how much was done based on true loyalty to the breed.. I wish I could travel back in time..

In the west we could all see it was done by either looks or competition.

Oh man, Ingo and Burga breeding.. that would probably make for the best of my breeding times..
I mean, Ex and Bernd in the mix, what else could one want.

Looks like he did not have many breedings . You have to remember cause a dog look good  or is a good or great competitor.  It does not mean he will be a good or great producer.

Body 5543/44
Expressive, in the middle frame and size standing male with good harmony and building line and beautiful mänlichen character, he is well angulated and muscled and shows free space-creating movements with powerful actions. Slight weakness in the ear. Fred Falk break inbred imprints itself from the type.

That's for sure. Nowadays they go for that big time; if the dog is well titled or looks great, they breed like crazy.
Nevertheless, I just wonder how much did personal preference impact the breeding goals in the DDR.
So far, Don seems to have been the most preferred dog.

John which DDR dog of the old school is THE best looking one of the breed? (or true to the breed)
I think Held strikes that chord in me..
