.

  :bravo:

"The German Shepherd dog was not created to chase a ball or bite a sleeve. The DDR dog in my opinion is the closest dog to what was breed was intended for or to do. The breed was to guard live stock ,heard. Man bred all the drive and created the sport now man has change the breed far from what it was intended to be."

nici mie nu-mi place treaba asta deloc, sunt prea disperati dupa minge , aport , etc. Cainii vechi nu aveau instictul asta atat de dezvoltat, disperat

Thanks John, as you know I will keep making them. Also I plan on making some nice ones when I start working Hun and Briska in protection. I wish there was footage of Don R and other great east dogs... I was so thrilled when I first saw that Lord G at work video!

Dani The ddr dogs did what they were bred to do.That is why they were around for a long time and used so much.
But the big picture here is the work dog. This is what is now disappearing before our eyes and so few people take notice.

Well that's where my questions come in.. I search the internet for DDR dogs and so many of those owning DDR dogs breed for looks (pigment and large bone) and ok, you get pigment and bone BUT like I stated not long ago, what about the temperament..
I watched Ed Frawley's videos of the 89 DDR Sieger and I clearly noted the east Germans by that time already bred more angulated dogs (I forgot the kennel names right now...) .. Even Viktor ad Westsachsen who's looks I actually like, seems to be a pretty angulated dog. With that in mind, I find it hard to believe much can be done to restore the old dogs.. I do my best not to be pessimistic about it but reality tells me the remaining population of DDR dogs (with various exceptions) is that of DDR show -orientated blood. You can correct me if I am wrong about that..

Yes this is correct this is were they started( 89 DDR Sieger)the down fall of the old DDr type. But i think with some still remaining it can be brought back to some point and combined later with other old type to save working type GSD'S
People of the ddr started to change before 89.Hell the west was getting real money for show and sport dogs to usa. What were they selling dogs for in the ddr????

John I take that statement for what I know you want it to be, as you've looked into the reality of the DDR bloodlines for so many years. At this point in time I am tempted to believe the best working dogs and CLOSEST to the old type are those no-document, old school dogs, that not many pay attention to (because the very lack of documents) but that's not to say I underestimate the importance of knowing the blood (hence the need for documents / records). Trafalga I think was one of the kennels who clearly bred for looks/show eventually.

Ok, take this one, Haug v Trafalga - I actually like the dog, in fact it reminds me of Viktor ad W but I see the "show" tendencies in place already.. Zorro on the other hand, with a straighter back and somewhat rougher shapes altogether, clearly seems to me to be closer to the old type.

Haug

I must have been thinking of Lito v Trafalga...

Roker v Trafalga

Dani Most of the kennels in the DDR went to show and or sport.
They had nothing for all the years and most could not give the dog away. But in west germany they were selling dogs for hundreds of dollars. It was survival to switch the breedline

Makes me sad to read that.. but then one has to understand the needs of the East Germans at the time....

Well... I guess some of them are positioned in such way they look like show dogs. Carly Policia looked like that in the first official pictures posted on the net.
