I totally agree! Dux's mother has had a dog that had no training whatsoever (died a while ago) and was a true, real guard dog. If the dog has the package in the genes, gold is to come out eventually and few are the obstacles on the way. Ben was beaten at the age of four months by a neighbor of mine, that had no affect on his temperament whatsoever in fact, only 2 or 3 months after that happened, I had to deal with the first case of a man Ben bit, sent to our door by the doctor so the dog can be checked for Rabies shots, hehe..
In Hun's case, my desire is that he takes a challenge seriously, I don't want him to turn into yet another sport type dog. So far he shows good fight but is still childish in his thinking, definitely needs more time to mature. TIME, that's what's needed.

I think we should be happy if our dog's are naturally good guard dogs, and especially the one's that don't go over the top in the middle of the night barking, to upset our friendly neighbour's..
As for those looking for a Security patrol dog well thats another story again, some TIME, patience and unfortunately plenty of LUCK is needed to have Working German Shepherd as a crime fighting dog...!!!

Well i believe it's easier to obtain that Security patrol dog because, even a less good dog can still perform well on the street as long as the handler is right there holding the leash. There are many dogs that are really good service dogs but not that good when left alone.

Yes they are very good with handler to make offender run from fear, but if they are approached in a harsh manner then kicked and punched hard, most will fall and desert handler IMO..
If that sleeve or suit is not visible or smelt they probally won't have the desire to bite through prey drive..
As for GSD K9 alone in yard, i would say 90 out of 100 would run to the furthest corner in reality these days..
As a kid i used to test many GSD and Rottie's in factory yards and houses, by starting to climb the fence..
And many would run backward's barking from a distance, but there was a Grey Sable GSD which was the first time i had seen as a 12 year old..
This Sable GSD was not the type to run backward's he was big and a serious bloody dog...!

not necessarily or not always I would say.. many a less good dog will be really good if the handler is on sight. One particular dog comes to mind right now but out of respect for big names in the field, I will not mention that name. The dog is presented as a real dog but I tested the dog myself and was not that brave when alone. However, if the handler was on sight, he would kill, literally cut through.

Sure there are the odd one here and there, but generally speaking from what we have here in this part of the world is nothing to brag about..
In Europe am sure it's a much better chance to view such dog's for civil work...

Just mentioning that I took Hun out for a walk after a long break due to the bad weather and he really enjoyed it. To my satisfaction people stared at him as if they saw an actual wolf

O poza cu Hun pe asfaltul "liber", no more snow
