Aron, strabunicul lui Hun. Nu m-ar deranja daca asa va arata si Hun la maturitate  desi cred ca Hun va avea un cap ceva mai diferit si un torace ceva mai coborat.

Aron, Hun's great grand-sire; I wouldn't mind if Hun will look like that when he's all grown up, although I think his head will look somewhat different and will have a deeper chest.

Thanks Manstopper, it's gonna be a looong trip home.
Yes he has a very nice grip and it only took one or two tug play sessions (back in August) to get him to get the idea and tighten it, another 6 months from now and he will likely be worked on the sleeve. His ball drive is very good so Hun will be easy to train.

I would of thought it might be early for sleeve work Dani, unless you had intention's of more sport type training, good to hear that he has extra ball drive for easier learning.

nooooo... don't get me wrong, he'll start agitation / sleeve work when he is "ripe" enough!! No way I want to turn this pup into a sporty dog, or else I wouldn't be able to walk my own talk, if you know what I mean.

When i read that in 6 months he will be worked on the sleeve, this sort of puzzled me a bit. As we have had discussed on this Forum and other, that around 14 or 18 months would be a good time to start some form of training, other than sport..
Hun's great grand sire looks great, and i can picture Hun with a deeper chest and more substance.

14 - 18 months..? I remember I (for one) mentioned 1 year of age and not any earlier than that. And yes, even then I would do it only if I see the young dog takes a threat seriously, not just high pitch bark and wag the tail. Hun will get rag / tug work with me to exercise / strengthen his grip and start his discipline training at the age of one year. After a while he will shortly be tested for reaction and if we like what we see (and only then) we will go for "it". and hey, if he shows civil aggression even earlier (in life) than that, well then yes, he will likely undergo protection training accordingly. In my view, it's all about waiting for that "mind clock" in the dog to "tic" and let us know it's time to go to action, whether it's at the age of 12 months or 14, it all depends on that clock. I hope my English is good enough to make the point I am thinking of.

well, at 6 months he already has a noticeable chest, so I can only imagine that with age it will only go deeper / stronger

Dani your English is excellent and so would be your knowledge i believe, on when would be the perfect level of maturity to handle the pressure of a serious threat and then building on this.. A deep rumbling bark is so rare to see these days, all this with a solid build and Hun is one super beast..!!

Thank you for your compliments on my English, you are but too kind!
As far as my knowledge to do with these things, I believe it comes down to knowing what you want to do with the dog and time things accordingly. You want sports, you can have the pup on the sleeve at 6 months old; on the other hand, if you want to go for real stuff (and I just love calling it "real") you wait until the young dog knows a threat is exactly that.
And as for Hun - no worries, you will see videos, as he progresses but yeah, he has very distinctive barks for now, high pitch when we play and he asks for the ball, low pitch at night when he hears or sees something.

Its good to hear that territorial bark at night, especially if it's deep and echo's through the streets. But not for too long as the neighbours won't be so friendly the next time they see you walk by
Keep it real Dani thats for sure, some might agree to disagree..Oh well we all have our own views when we talk about courage that comes from the heart... ;) And not something programmed in the mind on the field

yeah..  it's almost as if you have been following us here    if Hun barked for too long at night, the neighbors may actually call the police  lips.sealed   at home in Constanta it's a different story, though  ;)

well I have high hopes that Hun will show true courage, coming from the heart, as you put it. i don't want to rush into big words of course, he is a young dog still, but I like what I see so far. Like I was saying in another post recently, Briska is showing what I am looking for at snail-like speed, she is not explosive like your typical west dog or a Czech good bitch, but she has that natural suspicion towards strangers and I love it. Hun on the other hand, shows more that I have hoped for, at his age, which is why I dared to call him my "next Ben". But we will see...
At the same age as his, Remus was already reacting like a tiger, to strangers, but the environment in which the two grew up / developed, also has a "word to say".

"I wouldn't mind if Hun will look like that when he's all grown "

It will take 2 years - 2.5 yrs to really see what Hun will look like
As you know from seeing the old bloodlines of the ddr and talking about breeding these lines they seldom look anything like the sire or dam of the litters. Many people have little experience in breeding the old bloodlines that are not mixed.Dani you had opportunity to visit and see ,talk and take home a dog. I am sure you have added some knowledge to your breeding program as a result of your viisit to South West Florida USA.

That's right John but I still have much to learn, in fact the more I know, the more I realize there's yet more to know
