John these dogs have a different build than most korung showed dogs in the history of the breed. We are talking about straight backs, somewhat "less charming" looks, makes me think the military (former DDR and CZS) bred different bloodlines altogether.
I think the gene pool for an old school contemporary dog lies within the bunch of dogs exsting in many a military unit, in former communist countries in the East European block.. it's just my opinion.

I believe this to be true also, the markings and structure differ to those we so commanly see these days..
And character last but not least..! Nice nostalgic photo's John..
