I'd be fair to say I personally don't like them and on that basis I may be subjective, but you don't really get to see this dog used widely in protection, but maybe in the backyards of individuals or companies. So it's just down to options / preferences as far as guarding goes. Nobody does professional perimeter watch using a Caucasian O. Maybe in some special situations, but I have not heard of any. Tessa is right in saying it's just a dog like other dogs, but there are breed particularities which a potential buyer needs to consider, one needs self evaluating before deciding what type of dog to go for. There are things one cannot change regardless the training hours. The CO has the typical behavior of a sheep dog, fairly primary breed, very suspicious towards strangers, not easy to dominate (especially once they reached adulthood) they are limited in learning some things, etc.
It's like those talks we had with those saying the GS dog is one type and that the show line can be the same very good dog.. Right.., to some degree, if one doesn't really dig into more depth of info, to note that in no serious sport competition or special service no show line dog is present. many good watch dogs there too, but the same, in the backyards of some, nut very widely used.
