Ye conformation, big blocky heads, colour and don't forget the pedigree papers with the well known dogs..
I guess "well known" dogs doesn't always mean good dogs of the past, but maybe a dog that has produced a lot and, at that time it could have been used exactly because of large blocky heads etc.. I am very, very tempted to believe that some of the dogs we are told were THE dogs of the time, were not really that good but advertised to be good. Otherwise I can't explain why their progenies, in huge numbers, are not all that bright. On the other hand we got dogs that were not that popular and highly showed and titled but produced well.

Am sure there were many dogs that we don't know about who were not titled, because of physical faults and so on, but in character were quite impressive.. And spent there life on some farm or something guarding there territory very naturally with courage.. And the one's we do know about were unable to be pre potent producer's, which is something not so common. I personally feel that Ex v Riedstern himself and those linebred on him kept the original character traits going..
The dog in the last video Norse was linebred on Ex v Riedstern 5,5-4 and these are one of the reason's i lean towards those from Line 11B combined with 11D..
Just my view on it..

A dog by the name of Ingo vom Hafenlohrtal also played a part in many of the dogs and bitches..
Some of those linebred on Ingo later combined well with DDR bloodline..
He Ingo apparently was a sharp dog, even though he was bred for show purposes..

That's interesting, where do you have this information from?

That's interesting, where do you have this information from?
From a bunch of 'old school' enthusiasts, who have been there right from the beginning when DDR dogs such as
Don Trafalga and the 2 DDR bitches were imported into the country (mid 70's)
Then through trial and era in those days they had a fair idea of what worked and what didn't..
The beginning of working dog breeder's here such as Armando and Buennen Kennels were utilizing the DDR dog's who were mixed and matched with dog' s linebred on Ingo vom Hafenlohrtal.
One particular dog Buennen Nando (Adolph) was a very sharp courageous dog who was also, put in the same class as Pekahiah..
So basically my knowledge has come via a small number of 'old school' Working Dog enthusiast's who have been there from the beginning (1970's). I personally have been interested since the late 80's,when i used to enjoy going to see dog's being trained by Kris.. There still is always something to learn and that's why i am part of this Forum to broaden my knowledge, and one day God willing come and see you guy's in Romania..

It's good to note you kept your appetite high for knowledge on these dogs and needless to say we are keen on finding out more about the past of these dogs so we can try and build the future, to whatever degree that is possible.

The way i see it is that our enthusiasm and experience has little to do with our luck to obtain a perfect dog..!
Its nice to have a dog who we are content with for the moment...!
