noticed that he is 3-4 on Zorro, wonder if he has the character of Zorro..
it's exactly like John puts it, you may have a great dog in Zorro (for example) but in order to get something good out of him, you really need to know the different bloodlines in order to "mix" Zorro's with the right one. Just having Zorro in the picture is not enough..

These folks in the States where mostly women own and import DDR GSDs (not all) are not working their dogs and so do not know which have working ability.   Breeding any working breed without working them will be the demise of their ability, not that they're bred to the wrong bloodline, but that they are bred for "big heads, dark pigment, huge bone" to the exclusion of testing for anything else.

Well this is my own view, based on some input from John, what I read in online message boards as well as what I see in online videos and images.
I believe the Americans do not really know how to separate true working lines of the DDR from the show lines of the same DDR. DDR dog by default does not mean working dog / line. The DDR had their own show lines and I came to learn, in the last 4 years or so, that many seem to either ignore or (much more likely) don't know / realize that. Also, I believe MOST of the DDR dogs the Americans bought after the Wall came down, were of show lines, for two reasons - one would be, the east Germans, really, sold (mostly) good looking crap to the Americans especially since looks seem to be very important to the American way of thinking (not just when it comes to dogs). The other reasons would be, the really good working dogs were taken by others, such as the (former) Soviets.

Please remember I ams saying this based on the above mentioned, not real-life experiments.

Having a website and giving out limited or full registration papers, with plenty of nice pics and using many fancy adjectives, don't mean your getting some courageous hard genuine DDR dog, wheather it's in the states or other parts of the world.. If i was to take a pick i would probally visit some area in the former soviet regions..

..and that's the reality with many current DDR GS dog breeders.

There are some videos you could watch of this young dog. I personally don't like the bloodlines with some exceptions but I posted the dog as some of you may be particularly interested in the east blood.

Heard of this dog a few years back, when he was imported here. Did not personally see the dog, but seems to be strong nerved dog with plenty of conditioning behind him. Very tall and god to find out if any decent female progeny are around from Marco..
Am sure that i read on another forum, that Marco's pedigree on the PDB is or was not correct.
His Dam is apparently born in 1978, so he would of been born in the mid 80's. Yet i thought he was here in the early 2000 - 2001

Pedigree database is LOADED with crap, names just being mentioned without real foundation. The two major databases, pedigree database and working-dog.eu are both crap. Furthermore, the later one, although called "working-dog", present show line breeding too; I emailed the admin but had no reply whatsoever. This is the influence of.. well, you know who..

The reason I like held is, when I come across good working dogs of east bloodlines, I eventually bump into Held in the pedigree. Many good Czech dogs have Held.

Well we can say that Bero has that unique muzzle form, similar to Held. As does Titus ofcourse.
The pic of Ingo v Rudingen on PDB shows a very square side profile, looks very differant on the photo which is on the Von Forell site.

I believe the dog posted on PDB is the correct one, you can see it is the same dog in the video posted on YouTube. There is another picture of Lord available, seems to be a more black dog.. could be Lord at a younger age..?
