Title: Casso
Post by: Man Stopper on July 19, 2010, 05:03:25 PM
Casso is from K9 Mad Maxx and the Dam is litter sister to Yultzen Diesel who can be viewed on data base.. He is at the moment showing some defensive reaction to strangers and enjoys ball retrieval.. Very quick learner and am expecting very good outcome because of genetics, also massive bone and solid Bi Colour body..

Reg correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this Casso's sire..? That dog reminds me of some of the dogs I've seen in the early 90's..

Sire of Casso is Mad Maxx, who is also the sire of Onyx.. The mother Yultzen Maxine is the "litter" sister of Yultzen Diesel.. Would have to say that i am more then happy so far..

Well you yourself sound like you already got your own set of standards and that's great, because you won't settle for anything less than what you consider to be (at least) good, if not very good. Now, you know what we will be expecting of you ;)
Bun, acum stii ce vom vrea noi in viitor ;)

No doubting his DDR look a like strength, although in comparrisson to Onyx at same age for sharpeness, I'd have to say he's not that defensive/suspicious towards strangers, but am probaly expecting too much too early..

Casso are intr-adevar un piept f adanc.

Dani i cannot believe the size of Casso, considering he has average parents... Proves that genetics works in mysterious ways, which i feel most breeders overlook when matching a worthy mating pair.. In regards to playing with dogs, well that footage was Casso's first introduction to canines in the busy city.. And he shows aggressive behaviour towards other dogs i have noticed, something which i should moderately correct..
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: guest on July 28, 2010, 09:53:49 AM
Would be quite appropriate to let him free to play with other dogs. I don't think that he's agressive, he's just playing harder. Tara was the same when she was young, most pups owners that come in contact with her said that she was agressive, by the way she played. She kept this habit even after she grown, but I wasn't worried, not even a moment.

I just dont feel it would benefit Casso, as my main concern would be him getting treated roughly from bigger dogs.. This then resulting in long term psycological issues as well as possibly effecting him physically (hips/elbows).. But your right he just wants to play, but not really comfortable from other dogs/owners unfortunately..

I know what you mean, had a similar experience with Ben. But what I'm thinking of is, playing with pups closer to his age, I am pretty sure that will help Just let him loose in the presence of young pups, it also gives you yet another opportunity to analyze his behavior...
Title: Re: Casso

Dani you suggest that Casso playing with young pups will help, would this be purely for anylizing his behaviour or would there be other benefits also.. If it is in regards to dominance, well he shows very forward reaction when he sees other dogs, by tail going up like a big hook and growling like a Lion I guess that i am applying the same raising methods as i did with Onyx, only that this time round am doing more early socializing with Casso, and hope that all this socializng pays off... Was just thinking of Santos/Bogdan and was wondering what approach they have when raising young pups ?

Analyzing his behaviour wold be an extra element, I'm talking socialization first and foremost; no direct contact with other pups / dogs could potentially lead to unwanted aggression, in my view

Socialization is very important at his age, and the contact with other dogs (indeed, preferably dogs with similar age to him) is also an extremly important part. And, as long as other mature dogs are not agressive, I would let him play with them. They play a quite important role, knowing to put him at his place when necessary.

I know for sure I don't want another dog to put my (young and developing) dog at his place, by another dog. I (the owner) want to be the only being in the universe that does that.

Casso is very confident with people and has no issues to approach them.. This is the opposite of Onyx at same age, where he was very defensive and untrustworthy of everyone.. Would you guys think that Casso can have the same level of sharpeness as an Adult, or realistically at best be a sleeve orienated dog.. I keep on hearing that his confidence with people is good, but does this mean that he trusts people and therefore wont be civil as an adult ?
Just wondering what you guys, who have seen much more young pups become adults and how they turn out..

Thanks Thara for that, and yes your right it has those features you mentioned.. Have used these settings i think it was set to Portrait, and got excellent image of a side head shot profile of Casso, which i have kept in my favourites.. The pics i posted are not the best as i was running backwards. calling him towards me.. Thae reason i posted them was that i thought the photo, was very similar to the one John had posted of Big Sammy D, the motion of it, the angle and so on.. I do have a sharp pic i would like Dani once again,

Casso is showing some excellent signs for scent work and is very keen in prey activities.. Also am pleased that he is showing some of those Mad Maxx traits at home, although on the street he is very calm and not threatened or nervous around people ( but aware )..An easy dog to train/raise so far...!
Casso da semne de lucru bun in lucrarea urmei si ii plac activitatile 'in prada'...ma mai bucur ca arata si unele calitati ale lui Mad Max, acasa, desi pe strada e f calm si nu se simte amenintat sau nervos in preajma oamenilor (dar precaut)... Well he definitely will have a serious look, but the 'serious' character is what we're after...! And that muzzle truly does look like it has potential to be super thick and strong.. I have a good camera, just that i figured out this 'snapshot' on my video's and get the pose i'm after, it's much easier then waiting for that magic shot..! Have new video on You Tube, of Casso with his litter brother Asta.. Its titled K9HAUS PUPS. Its been nearly 5 months since they have seen each other and have different characters from what i can see.. Asta is more dog aggressive and shows no real suspicion towards strangers, i was asked to do a basic simple aggitation on Asta, and there was no response, probaly still early we figure.. Although i am happy to say that Casso had a different attitude with a defensive bark and moving forward with high "cocky" tail set.. We were both thrilled that Casso is relaxed and has signs of natural aggression towards Man and not other dogs..

Thanks Dani he is looking Very Good and am pleased to say he has the character i have visualised...! I recall when you said to me that, there will come a time when they just don't except things..! Casso is showing confidence and under standing the meaning of 'praise' . Especially when getting into "defense"drive recently, shows a behaviour...!

Tonight Casso was out in the city as it was a nice Summer night, we walked past a few Restaurants and Cafe's.. Early on in the night he noticed a drunk who did not have a usual walk and body language, which Casso noticed..After 20 minutes or so we came across the the same Man, at a different location.. At this moment we were relaxing at a street bench and Casso was lying down relaxed.. So the same Man walked past very much drunk as it goes, and suddenly paused in front of us and gave Casso a stare in the eye ball.. When all of a sudden Casso gave a solid defensive deep bark, which gave this guy a wake up call. I now am full of joy that genetics has carried through, and strongly believe i have a 'Crazy Casso' in the making...[/color]

Good to hear that Datko has early positive signs we're after.. And real life situations are the best and true indication, and something which can only be there with genetics i feel.. Just like to mention that the bark against the 'stranger' was differant then the barking at a 'cat' for example.. With the 'cat' his bark is a combination of frustration and anger, something similar you hear on a training field when dog is focused on sleeve... But i tell ya that the bark against stranger was just like Mad Maxx, and the beauty of it he responded after he sensed the Man was drunk and suspicious. Great potential as Protection dog, who is composed and responds when required.! Slightly cooler than Maxx and Onyx who are just completely nuts...!

Casso is sparking up showing that he wants to be Boss, come play/wrestle time he like's to take it serious and takes any opportunity to wrap his jaw around my arm or nip the ankles/shins.I enjoy puppy playing with him,he gets excited and has that GSD expression that we love.. Has been tested twice in the streets, with suspicious stranger's(helper)and responds very well with excellent drive (body language) and vocally sounds like a Lion.. Am glad the time has past with results i was after, thrilled to say the least with the "Old School Traits" both looks and character..

really good to know all that Reg! He is looking good, I can say that! Love those full body pictures, he's growing to be a sharp looking dog. Casso's development comes with great joy for you and for all those really looking for the old school dogs, as we need them around, that's ever so certain! And I am glad to see character plays a big part (or the biggest) as far as your expectations go.

Thanks Dani this is my fav pic taken a few months back.. Well Casso is lifting his leg on trees and scraping grass/soil marking his territory, signs of maturing and cockiness...! Very alert and composed in busy public area, besides yesterday a lady wanted to pat him. She approached quickly forward and Casso lunged forward faster and was ready to growl and possibly bite. But i pulled him back at that moment, and he settled very quickly which was good. He has crazy ball drive and picks up just about any thing, besides glass bottles. Loves searching for hidden items. Test his bite and re bites and am happy for what he is naturally, cant wait for the training to start to see how true the colours really are...!
Are drive urias si ia in gura cam orice, mai putin borcane de sticla. Ii place sa caute obiecte ascunse. L-am testat in privinta muscarii si a re-muscarii si imi place ce vad genetic, abia astept sa incepem antrenamentul sa vad cu adevarat de ce e in stare!

Dani this is the first time he has been 'approached' by a stranger in yard. He showed forward movement reacting defensiveley with some signs of stress through his barking. But believe with maturity and a few more sessions in differant locations, he should perform pretty good. There was no equipment used on this occassion, and will keep this method to anylize i guess the attitude he has to stranger(person). On previous 2 tests with helper running away, the bark was more confident with more of a roar deep bark..This i would like to see when he is approached uo close. Then we would call this the JACKPOT for our liking...! After this session he see's people in the streets in a differant way, with extra caution.. A video can say a few more words to some degree.. Be good if Santos gave some training tips or you Dani for that matter..!

Well as far as I can tell you have the right mind, and with the right purpose in it, I should say. You want a hard dog and you are definitely looking for what's needed. I would also say these sessions are just about what he needs for the time being, no equipment needed, just building up the defense and fight. That is exactly my plan with Briska. Let's wait and see what Santos has to say.

Thought that i would start working/ building his confidence in his own territory, but than again i also am considering pushing him in defense mode, on unfamiliar grounds.. For example in dark factory area with open space, surprised by stranger. Would you think that he is too young for this pressure and this can decrease his confidence or possibly make him tougher as he does not know any repetitive training.. I hope i am making sense in what i am trying to say..

Thanks mate for the compliment on Casso, and yeah he does have that Stobar Hardt look about him, as he has Norse 3 times on his Sire side fairly close, and also Don v Trafalga several times on his maternal side. As you know this all traces back to Ex vom Riedstern a half dozen times atleast; if not more...! Even though this might be 7 or 8 generations back,it still gives him that Mediceer von der Pelzmuhle look; in my eyes anyway. He has stood up to a 3 year old Husky male, without barking and also to another 4 y.o Rottie with no barking and high cocky tail set, with minimal raising of hackles.. Dont let him off lead with other dogs, you just never know if play becomes fight.. So he doesnt become defensive or intimidated by dogs, but hates cats with a passion...! Lets cross our fingers that this same 'passion' to 'hate', will be towards a threat made by suspicious stranger...!

Thanks again Dani for posting the clip, much appreciated. :) Wanted to test his reaction, on being on his own tied up in corner..(i was watching from inside the house) Dani could i just ask in your opinion what are the key signs, where Casso shows civil behaviour ??? Really appreciate on other experienced guys such as Santos, Dux and Tessa's opinions are. How can i build his defensive behaviour to be more with confidence rather than fear.. IMO his reaction was not so quick, which indicates some thinking going on; rather than going into a frenzy only out of fear, when seeing a stranger all of a sudden coming around the corner.. Am still learning and would appreciate Forum members views.. Cheers..

teeth out "on sight", pretty "insane" reaction when seeing the stranger, I think that would be my answer. Then again, you could test that in him by having him by his own loose in a yard that is new to him, with a stranger approaching, separated by a fence. See how much confidence he shows. But remember he is still young!

I think it wouldn't be fair to the dog to expect too much too soon from him.. he is still young, if he "thinks" before he acts / reacts.. I see no problem in that...

I like a thinking dog that if he errs it is on the side of caution. Your dog looked fine for the few seconds I saw. If he's younger than two, I would not push the civil agitation too much, at all. You can have someone going side to side with brief frontal positioning and brief advancement and then running off when Casso reacts as he did. Don't worry so much about evaluation but worry about training him UP. Nothing but winning. Teach him that winning is all he will ever do, and when he is grown and mature (if his genetics are good) he won't accept anything else. IMO

THanks Kangdanlin for your view on Casso.. The way i see it is that i put him in corner, to test his character and what kind of bark he has, to determine how much fear is there. BEing defensive as we know has 2 direction the dog chooses, either fight or flight.. For a first timer i believe there is potential with Casso, especially if he has me behind him for confidence building.. But i do prefer if he has the balls like his half brother Onyx, who would challenge anyone anytime with true courage and hardness on his own...!

hey Reg, I really like this dog, in a way it also reminds me of Ben
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-95JfsYrKCg
Maxx at 12 years of age is weak in the back legs, although surprisingly not much grey around muzzle;maybe he doesn't stress out so much when confronted.. His mind is very alert and sharp for an old timer with "old school" traits.. :) His lines trace back to many great DDR dogs, you can notice that square blocky head/muzzle on him.. I know Dani what you mean, how you regret not having semen collection from Ben,dogs have lost natural suspicion/hardness..! But am sure you can produce hard type dogs like Ben, possibly with Nero and Briska.. ;)
La varsta de 12 ani Maxx e moale pe picioarele din spate, desi in mod surprinzator nu a albit asa mult in jurul botului; poate nu se streseaza asa mult cand e confruntat.. are mintea foarte alerta si agera pt un caine batran cu trasaturi de "scoala veche".. :) Are in spate multi caini tari DDRisti, puteti observa acel cap / bot gros / patrat..

But not 100% sure on when he would be ready for some hidden sleeve work and/or closer confrontation / agitation by stranger.. Dont want to have regrets in doing things to early or late if that make sense.. Like you mentioned if genetics are there, time and patience will give positive results.. ;)

Have done few different tests, tied to a pole with approaching stranger,as the clip on YT.. On leash out of his own territory (neutral ground) in the dark, shows defensive behaviour with overload stress, but still moving forward with high raise tail, and minimal raise of hair.. With wire fence between him and aggitator on (neutral ground) he shows much more confidence and deeper bark, as there is a barrier between him and helper... In the car he displays very serious approach in defense with deep bark.. At home he is extremely territorial, the least we expect..! The test's were probaly a bit too much, with plenty of pushing to the maximum.. An accidental kick in the nose, between the fence got him sparked up and thinking. Also the car being hit by aggitator, had him thinking and pause for a second or two, then responding with defense.. I raised him to chase moving objects, and has in born prey and hunt drive.. So focusing now on defenseive work, but not so often..!!

Took this footage yesterday and am pleased i captured this moment of them both, which shows they genetically share a 'non agressive' character towards other dogs.. But rather have a different attitude towards Man, only when provoked ofcourse ;) Maxx is close to 13 years of age and it shows in the way he moves around, but still very much mentally alert..

you can tell his (Maxx) age... the way he looks to the sides, his eye sight is likely weakened..

Very true Dani, also there was a bitch on heat near by;good old Maxx still is keen on a mating..One last time perhaps, only if those hips were made of Iron..! Just uploaded a clip of Casso's litter sibling Asti, tell me what you think of her reaction at 16 months..

Post by: Man Stopper on August 21, 2011, 05:44:00 AM
Dani what do you think of Asti for a non trained, and non socialised bitch.. I think if shen was raised better she would display way more confidence, she is naturally very defensive and this just recently happened..
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: zimbris on August 21, 2011, 08:34:40 AM
I think she still looks a bit "young" in her reaction, for her age. Let's wait and see what she'll be like in another 6 months or so. I've seen a similar reaction in a Cliff Geraufer daughter 2 years ago in Germany, but she was over 6 years old, I kind of expected more from her.
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: Man Stopper on August 21, 2011, 09:47:12 PM
Absolutely in time there may be some improvement, although not a great deal.. With the lack of socialisation she would have the 'spook' type of aggression.. Could be still of benefit for breeding IMO..
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: zimbris on August 21, 2011, 10:07:01 PM
if she doesn't fail the very basic sleeve bite test (does not flee), yes I guess she will do. Even not-so-impressive bitches produced awesome dogs. Then again, I am not saying she will turn out to be less impressive, just making a statement. Some "renowned" Czech dogs fled off the field at stick attack, they are great names on great websites (dogs of the past) but there are videos documenting their weaknesses.
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: Man Stopper on August 21, 2011, 10:21:13 PM
Asti for a novice passes the test as she responds to stranger without any major 'provocation' training, a novice basically.. But when we're talking about 'trained and supposedly well bred dogs, who display lack of confidence courage, it makes you wonder what "Working Breeders" have accomplished besides a loveley looking natured dog.. All show and NO "GO"...!

Ye this was the first time he was agitated on unfamiliar territory to test his reaction, he was around 15 months in this clip, now he is approx 20 months.. At home he shows more confidence and the bark is deeper and differant rhythm, will get this on film once i find someone to be in backyard, which unfortunately has low fencing. Have filmed him tied on lead in yard, but its not the same when they are free.. He has had no work done on sleeve, i believe this will settle his overly defensive reaction.. Castro is his litter brother and shown on home ground, which gives extra confidence.. No training or agitation before this footage for Castro, he had shown no signs of defense a few months ago.. Surprised me seeing his reaction when i approached with camera. Both of them are just shown naturally what they are, with no training which IMO gives a better evaluation..

that's it mate! what's in the genes is what counts, that's what will pass on to pups, not titles on papers or sport performance generally speaking. I notices Castro's ears (that's a fine name by the way) and I am thinking there's something there, in the genes, to do with that, so I would be more careful when it comes to breeding I guess (no disrespect to Casso's breeder!)

Believe it or not there was an accidental mating (Castro) with a bitch who also has weak ears, and the pups have firm ears. Check on MY YT channel 'FEMALE PUPS '.. The solid black bitch has like Mad Maxx square blocky head, she could be mine in the near future, see what happens..

Well thats the thing with the laws here in regards to sleeve work and all... He has had no training what so ever in working with helper, but has plenty of drive for biting multiple objects which are introduced to him, from tyres to plastic buckets, heshem materials and even metal objects.. Has no issues on slippery surfaces or with retrieving objects from water. Tested him several times over the last 18 months to see his reaction towards stranger and he reads the situation well, although i must admit that i probally began the testing at too early of an age... I didn't want to do any sleeve work as to me it really only shows that he would be conditioned just like a sport dog.. He is very relaxed and friendly and would respond if provoked and/or senses a real threat.. The best footage i could show would be how he responds in his own territory, which is where we need him to show some serious security guarding. And i guess how he reacts on neutral ground would be purely all natural with NO real conditioning or training because of age. Now that he has reached 2 years of age i believe with his maturity, would have better results in less time..
Get some video of him working , lets see what he has.
The best i could do would be show how he is in his own territory and i guess on neutral unfamiliar territory NO SLEEVE OR EQUIPMENT...!

Hey mate, sleeve work can be done by dogs that are not that good, provided the trainer/training is good. I was just looking to say "let's see more action" ;) It's ever so clear you know what you want from a dog, considering all the comments you've made all this way, a sleeve in the picture would only show the bite color I guess.. and maybe the nerve but like you said, not everyone is able to do that these days, with all the law requirements out there. Don't worry about adding extra effort to prove anything to us in the forum, whatever you post from time to time is just fine!

I like his build, has the old look. Are you happy with how he developed? What's his civil aggression level at this stage/age? I'm asking because I am trying to visualize what Briska would turn into when reaching adulthood. She is sociable out on the street but does not want to make friends with anybody, she may be willing to fetch if you got the toy but if you want to pet her afterwards she pulls away.. I like that about her. Needless to say she is very unfriendly when on my property. I'm trying to learn how the East blood works
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: Man Stopper on June 28, 2012, 05:35:10 AM
Yes he does have that 'old school' working type physique, and am pleased with his strength and proportions. If he senses a threat with very little provocation, he goes ballistic moving forward and has never backed off in the several session he's had. Only once he was tested with rag material recently, and took a bite and immediately spat it out, choosing to focus on helper.. He is not interested in people in the streets, and does not let no one approach within 2 feet of us.. It's good to hear that Briska has that balanced character, where by not excepting other's and naturally having a suspicious confident character.. Would it be fair to say that even though that the East blood is known to mature late, it still would vary from dog to dog i believe IMO.. Finger's crossed that Hun's and Briska's blood if combined can build and add a new level of sharpness..

It's simply to early for me to have a say on that, it's first time I actually have 2 dogs of DDR bloodlines. Now, I am sure they would have done a great job if I started early with rag work blah blah, the typical workout sessions most would go for with their dogs, but all that is done in prey and I preferred to wait and see how their own natural elements kick in, as oposed to being influenced by the mentioned techniques.

Hello Workingdog lovers,
Yes Sorin,Manstopper and i did a small but very realistic type of scenario where you could be aprouched by a stranger in the night.
Casso handled it with great confidence. Casso is very much the old tpye of german shepherd when it comes to strength of character but very impresive in terms of looks.
Manstopper certainly has him self a winner.

Cheers Sam for your positive feedback on Casso.. But some of the boys want to see some action, in HD video.. I guess a picture tells a thousand words, but a video says a million.. In the near future Sam you might have to find the time to help us get that moment on film in motion..
Still not 100% happy Dani, i still have that vision of a Held or Titus running around in my yard, with attitude.. Cream on cake... :)
Hey man, I hear you, I really do; getting THE dog nowadays is truly a luck phenomena, with so many good bloodlines dying down and a good dog springing out of nowhere (but not necessarily good producer). I think we ultimately got to be content with what we have and work just with that. Something tells me the best bloodlines are found in the old school dogs but that was swirled almost as if by a hurricane, since there has been no controlled breeding of the dogs in the military throughout the years. That cream on cake may never come in our own backyards OR if it did, it would very likely take us by surprise (talk about luck). I myself will soon start working Hun in protection although he still has a fairly "childish" response to various elements around. Right now I think he will act quite a bit in prey as I don't see a fight in him rising up as yet, but am expecting things to mature with time.

When time and technology allows it, I guess yes, it would be cool to see Casso in action. I guess the legal "climate" for such exercises is different over there. Would you have to file documents and stuff in order to train your dogs (on your own property) in protection?

Hello Gang, Dani your wright, the true hard dog's of yesteryear are dying out but needless to say we still have semen stored away from some of these great dog's here in Australia.
Unfortunatly these individuals who have this semen are very very very narrow minded and very greedy.
Reg is very lucky to have such a dog the second time around as most people are not so fortunate to have such a at all.So to have that type of dog twice in your life Reg would have to consider him self very lucky.
Long live ONYX!!. A true hard dog.
Regards Sam.

Sam I must say I am privileged to have Hun, it almost feels like having history in my backyard, he is gradually revealing his potential and shows me some quality when I least expect it. When I first saw him back one year ago I saw a drop of fight in him that I liked and I saw that again last night. Yes Reg must be lucky to have his hand on such dogs. On a different note, what do you mean when you talk about the narrow minded breeders? I can't help but think that some would "guard" what they have, since the breed is gradually going down, it's with that in mind that I am asking the question. To be honest Hun's semen will not fly out around my country but I will limit that as I consider best. I can understand the efforts of people like John to help preserve some old east bloodlines and I will show my respect to that by controlling what happens with Hun's blood. Nowadays many mix the bloodlines like they're always trying new soup recipes. If I learned anything from John in time, is not to become a chef but try and be a breeder with specific goals in mind.

Hello Dani. In 1988 i was introduced to the workingdog circle through the purchase of a female german shepherd. Beunnan Ulme was that female. If you look at some of the Von Forrell lines far back enough you will see her there, she's even in Casso pedigree.
For the four or so year's that i had her i found it a up hill battle just to breed her to male's of the same blood. So Dani in the end i had enough of the politic's and then sold her to Cendrise kennels.
All i'm saying Dani is that we can't single handley save a particular bloodline or we musn't limit our self's to the use of a quality stud dog for our personal gain.
I think if someone share's the same vision as you don't over evaluate your dog if your so fortunate to own such a dog.
Cheers.
Regards Sam.

Sam, cheers for expanding your thoughts a little bit. You see, over here, only a handful of people that I trust will actually get their hands on Hun's blood. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm over evaluating Hun, I am just being considerate of what "multipliers" are doing these days (I can't call them breeders). They hunt down whatever sells and in pursuing their own goals they breed good bloodlines into a genetic soup. I hope my English is good enough to pass around what I got in mind when saying that. You are right, no one can "save" bloodlines (long term) by their own efforts. I am at starting point in trying to help preserve specific bloodlines and so I am learning along the way.

Dani, your english is far better than mine. Considering you are in a Europian country and i'm in Australia i would have to say your english is excellent.
I suppose my excuse for having poor literature is that fact yes i was born in Europe and the fact that i came here to Australia when i was six years old.
Dani with the law being the way it is here in Austalia it makes it extremely difficult to own a dog like Casso let alone a dog like Mad Max or Onyx,Casso is mild in comparison to say Onyx when it comes civil agression but never the less Casso is more than plenty for Reg's need's.
I wish you the best in your endeavours Dani and i can't wait to see what comes out of your kennels.
Regards Sam.

Dani i dont know of any permit which would allow the working dog enthusiasts to train there dogs for protection.. Only those well known trainers who are recognised within the government agencies (cops) have the right to hold such sessions..But its not hard to get your hands on equipment and for those to find some warehouse, to have some short sharp sessions..

Dani your right that Hun's bloodline should be used where you and those fortunate few can achieve positive results. These days the term or title 'DDR' is just that a"title"on paper, not character. As for the soup i like to make it simple, with very few ingredients and extra HOT pepper...!!

Sam, thank you for your kind feedback on my English! Where about in Europe do you originate? Wow, sounds like Onyx was indeed one heck of a dog... I guess Casso is still young and Reg has to wait a bit longer to really tell the color of the dog. We keep talking about the old dogs as being the best and so I ask myself WHAT is going on???... It just seems to me like the breed is dying, as we can't compare the recent/modern dogs to the old ones.. where are we doing it wrong.. the answer MUST be found in breeding thinking and doing, it's just got to be..
But its not hard to get your hands on equipment and for those to find some warehouse, to have some short sharp sessions..
That's good news! I suppose there have been blokes in the history of the country who trained their dogs with the wrong goal in mind and determined the government to take action..

Hello workingdog people, Yes that's wright Dani, homework is very important for all phase's of aggitation work. As i have said many times the past and i will say it again,Casso just like his predecessor before him is a much more civil dog than a prey dog and most would have to agree that in a real life situation the civil dog would be a much better deterant than the prey dog.
I all so feel that if push came to shove the civil dog would be the one i would like to have at the end of my lead as i feel he would not need any form of stimulus to actually bite someone.
Interms of what the reaction of the dog may after the bite will very on aech individual dog e.g fight drive or combative instinct but certainly we have found in the past that dog's with high prey drive and low agression would not bight the agitator unless the dog was stimulated in prey mode(no good for crowd control work).

I totally agree. I mean let's be serious, what do you need a prey/sport dog for in real life or, since when does reality count less than sport competition??

Oh, that's turning into history of the breed as we speak, I'm afraid.. I got footage of dogs who competed in the FCI WUSV and scored well but when agitated in real life (with no equipment whatsoever) their natural aggression response was nada, zero. Imagine yourself walking down the street and a punk coming to bit the crap out of you and as he approaches with visible violent intent the dog responds with nothing. Once again, Casso sounds to be what Reg wanted and man, I so wish Onyx would be still around... I would hammer Reg to get protection work on video of the dog!

Sam i respect your views and opinions, as i know very true and well.. That you have spent numerous and countless hours in training and analysing various bloodlines here in Australia.. And so true that the concentrated version (inbred) dogs of the past , are the 'real deal'.... They also have the prey but channel this naturally with the desire to bite with an 'aggressive passion'..!!!

Over all i'm pleased with Casso as he is a clear headed dog and reads the situation very well. Very little if any provocation is needed for a response.. And Onyx was also a non trained dog, therefore the helper would need to wear a helmet with the body suit, if he was off lead.. He would bite you where he would be given the opportunity, he's favourite spot to target was the whole body any part of....!!! I believe the footage on You Tube titled K9HAUS SECURITY displays his desire for the helper to challenge him and fight, with disregard for the equipment..

Thanks guys its the first time since he was 7 or 8 months of age since he's had this kind of session.. This was taken in unfamiliar area, and tied on short lead.. Want to see how well naturally he can handle the pressure, gives a better indication of his natural ability to deal with a stressfull situation.. I must admit he will start to overload quick and be frustrated, and must release this with a bite..So short sharp sessions is what i will do from now on, every once and a while.. Get some differant footage next time round, with something at home more of a territorial guarding instinct..

Some (eventual) bite work on sleeve or suit will be good so you can note how much fight he brings to the table. Casso has good response, you got something good to build on that's certain. I like to see you're staying away from the typical prey work!

Dani this literally is all Raw and first time this situation for Casso, so what we see is the true character of the dog.. I mean he could of been conditioned and/or trained to cover up (mask) his weak points, but at the end of the day ; deep down the dog is as couageous as his genes are IMO.. What i see in this clip, is that his tail is high and no hackles raised, with forward movement and the rythym of barking was only defensive.. But i do like for other Forum members to give there opinion on what they see in his reaction and why ?? Like to hear what Santos thinks about Casso's reaction & why, also Roger or AXX Police tracker, as they seem to have more experience in this area i feel..

I like what i read, "raw" is good!! And you are so right, you can condition a dog to respond and thus cover/mask weaknesses! Ever so true! Some of the folk you want a response from are now more active on their own forums and only post here when they got pups to sell. The others will read your post and reply to your request  I know Roger will gladly give his view as he himself is into waiting to see what the raw dog can do! At the moment they are going through a tough health challenge, but when he has some time he'll be here.
As for Casso, I look forward to seeing more advanced work, whenever you decide to go for that

Hello Forum,
Yes Dani Manstopper does have a very good base to start with.
I endever to do more work with Casso as soon as get more time,it's difficult to get that time as i have a young family and a small business to run.
We will keep on doing some aggitation work for a while and then introduce the bite work very soon, i don't want to do the bite work as yet because in the past we found that introducing the bite at a much latter stage the dog's were much better balanced(not just prey orientated).
Casso compared to his brother has a much higher prey drive so switching him into prey mode will be no problem but like i said i do not want to turn this dog into a sport dog and i'm sure Manstopper wouldn't want that either.
Regards Sam.

I am glad that Casso is calm and relaxed, and with very little provocation he has some of those traits.. With training we can mask those weak points, so it makes me think that breeding and genetics is the only way to strengthen a dogs character. My personal aim is to breed physically healthy and stable dogs for all to enjoy, and if one happens to be the type, that is sharper and not managable by your average family man/woman.. Well i'll be more than happy to take him/her :) and replace it with a more chilled out puppy..

True, you can probably get ANY GS dog to do bite work, just in prey and everything would "look" good - emphasis on "look".

Man Stopper, can you post Casso's pedigree here, because pedigree's link on first page doesn't work.
I have NO pedigree papers for Casso but have very good knowledge on his ancestors, over the last 2 decades.. This bloodline was very hard to attain pedigree, as it was tightly held by breeder, with contracts and basiacally limited.. His Sire who we call Mad Maxx, has Security Pekahiah 4 times in the first 5 generations.. And Dam is litter sister to Yultzen Rahni, who you can see on this page..the Bi colour female.. She has Gento v haus Larwin, Fax v Grenzganger and Von Forell Vocho who was the main Stud at Von Forell Kennels.. Prototype Casso is 2 and a half years of age now.. Thanks again all.. :)

Why on earth are they that "tight" on all these situations with contracts and such..? I've had various emails from online friends telling me the situation in Australia is that many breeders (even known or popular ones) would provide false documents (sold dog carrying other blood rather than the one mentioned in the pedigree). Irony is, they likely bred to GOOD dogs but the said dogs had/have no documents. When you have to choose between a papered dog that is not that great and a non-papered dog who is great both as an individual and producer, what do you do, especially when the breed ain't doing great..? I am not standing for these things, I am just wondering myself about this. While the document aspect (genes) is ever so important, I can't help but be on same track with one who ultimately decides to stick with a good dog, regardless of the pedigree situation. IF ONLY you could have a pedigree issued for Casso, that would be awesome...

Being "tight" with the contracts is all because of $$$$$$$ and nothing to do with health (hip/elbow) issues that breeders might be concerned about..
Dani paper work is great, but is only effective when the breeder has knowledge, about several of the dogs within that pedigree..Seeing them first hand; working them and testing them out.. Its all good to see titles and ratings, but this would be beneficial to those who would want to participate in sport, but not those who seek a bit more 'old school'.. I believe with the video footage and the above average knowledge i have on Casso's bloodline, is more modern and effective than simply paper work alone.. Paper work or not, let the good times roll...!

Titles and stuff, am really not bothered at all mate.. I've seen "titled" dogs first hand, in the yards of very (if not extremely) popular breeders and they showed no natural aggression when being challenged by an aggressor. But when they saw the sleeve they turned "protective". Yeah right.. However, when it comes to breeding I learned the lesson well, you just GOT TO KNOW THE GENES, do the homework before you decide to go breeding. I guess that's why I am giving papers their importance (and by that of course I mean pedigree, not titles). Now, you know Casso's background, that's why i said it would be cool to get them.. somehow.. and you could work your way up from there.

The common dog without papers has been breed by an average simple minded breeder..I got a female , you got a Male German Sheperd so (ajde) lets breed, so to speak.. Which he or she has NO knowledge what so ever of the dog/bitches history..
So its for fun and some quick pocket money, but i feel that in my circimstance its pretty much not that case.. I feel comfortable and greatfull to have had contact with the original breeders of this rare concentrated bloodline that i have with Casso.. They 'dont make them like the way they used to' And with there 30 years+ of knowledge and experience it gives me more faith, especially when the 'proofs in the pudding' as they say..

I hear you mate. I got a male dog in sight that i (potentially) want to breed Briska too, the dog comes form papered dogs but the owner didn't get them, didn't know he could do that.. but, the dog is a beast, a true beast.. that's just food for thought for now, for me... ;)
I would say you might have a good chance to get your hands on the registration papers through the breeder somehow, if he is local and understanding your situation.. A for me Dani the guy that started this bloodline via the Paternal (Sire) side of Casso, some 2 decades ago was very strict and put all his litter's on limited registration.. He had the reputation fo breeding pure 'old school' kind of dogs, and had NO problem in having them under his control, in the way of contracts... He actually is the same guy that visited Europe in 1992 i believe, and took footage of Hassan v Gruntal, which is on the The Von Forell channel on You Tube .. They have Semen from Hassan v Gruntal and he has been used several times, and a few females have carried this bloodline forward at Von Forell kennels.. Mate i believe that beast that your talking about, should be UNLEASED...!!! ;)

This was literally first test / take, no edit or conditioning prior to filming. I am pleased with his natural reaction, and can only improve this with a bit more maturity and conditioning i like to believe.. Am glad you like my creative side in choosing a differant angle or approach to filming.. Man thats a three metre fence and at 40 kg he gave a good dozen attempts to get to helper.. I dont think that a Sport dog would go that ballistic for a sleeve TOY..

Sounds really good! Looking forward to see more clips of Casso in the following months! Oh, I actually believe a sport dog would go that "ballistic" for the sleeve toy, that's why they are actually notorious for, being "crazy" for a toy. In fact, if you take that side away, I wonder what the dog gets left with.. and I'm not being ironic when I say that.

Thick dog!!! I wish some of these dogs were worked a little bit in protection/guarding, I bet it would pump up their potential and we would see a more intense reaction. Nice thick looking type!
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: Man Stopper on November 03, 2012, 03:00:05 AM
Yes thick compact dog with a unique head piece and fantastic markings, he comes from a line of 'old school' dogs that will be incorporated with some of the stock i have access to.. This dog is very reserved and suspicous and not so active/restless and unfortunateley as you stated has not been conditioned in any shape or form with training. But the first two generations behind him are sharp, which is good enough for me..

This dog is Bodo looking isnt he, especially the width on chest/shoulders and those paws are square round and thick. And he seems to have older style look than Bodo himself, well thats jus my opinion.. Might have some little Bodo looking pups running around early Feb 2013, believe Zoltan will lower the prey drive and add more suspicious character.. The bitch is the litter sister to Casso, and she is wild and very highly civil in nature.. Trial and error at the end of the day, try is the least 1 can do...

Good point that he isn frustrsted to get to the aggitator, and would like to mention he is not condition He suits where there is a need for civil reaction,, and i feel that he can do excellent job for Riots...!
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: ben on November 23, 2012, 10:38:12 AM
Dani only some aggitation sessions in different locations and scenarios, once a month or so. No sleeves used in the training, but use a stick of some form for a more real life situation. His confidence has increased and would take your fingers for the weapon (stick), and he won't stop there, he's been conditoned to take multiple weapons repeatedly from the helper.. The aim is to focus on helper and expect to be challenged repeatedly, the reward is when the helper flees.. And not the weapon (toy) being his only focus, some extra paranoia I wanted to install in him, Casso loves the challenge;especially when he sees an instrument in hand..!

That sounds good Reg, sounds like you know what you're after and how to achieve it. Good on you! Civil/natural aggression, I think that's what we should all strive to preserve in GSD's, as that is kind of fading with passing years.

Time does fly, so its time to get some mating sessions started with Casso. Must get hips and Elbows x rayed, interesting to see his score at 3 years of age. Have 3 bitches which we are planning to serve. Some solid bitches with old school bloodlines via Don v Trafalga and Gento v haus Larwin in the mix..

Dani the line from Don v Trafalga who was brought in the mid 70's played a major role, in the foundation of fairly naturally sharp type dogs.A decade or so later Gento v Haus Larwin was utilised by Von Forell. Casso has Don vTrafalga nearly a dozen times in the first 7 generations, with the addition of DDR Females who also were brought into Australia along with Don (DDR).. Plus with the addition of Gento via his Dams line, multiple times. Please checkout K9HAUS BERO on You Tube. He is from our recent breeding, we're expecting he will add some extra ooomph in our breeding programme.

Then go into the forum, go to the topic you want to post the video in (in this case it's Casso), scroll down to where you type to post a reply, rightclick in that reply box and select PASTE. Then hit "preview" button just to make sure it's all good and after you see the preview, hit "post".

Since the mid 90's imported dogs with TITLES and well known NAMED KENNELS have increased the business$$$$ side of things, But decreased the natural civil sharp type dogs, majority are conditioned sleeve happy dogs IMO...! Bloodlines with Stobar Hardt and Security Pekahiah and so on , are very very rare.. A papered dog with these lines is pretty much non existent...!!!! Typical for east German dogs.. I was reading through some more online stuff only to find this over and over again - that is, the east dogs are more active in defense.. I kind of like the sound of that. If I wanted a competition dog, I would have likely chose the west lines, but for my needs, a calm but serious guard dog is just perfect. Good on you with them pups mate.

Dani I am sure like most people you only see what is written Boban produced many many problems as did many of his litter mate. Missing molars , bad hips ,elbows. In fact his sire and Dam were banned from producing any more SV registered litter as or all the problems in the litters. tazi
Title: Re: Casso
Post by: ben on April 04, 2013, 07:15:03 AM
As an individual dog I too like Boban and I definitely believe he's a tough dog that ended up in mild hands. Based on what I heard or have been told in private emails, he is not un-balanced or anything, but simply dominating type and so he needed the right hands to be appreciated for his traits. Unfortunately as a producer he did not score too high.. but I guess his lines carry the elements John mentioned. I would love to have Boban right in front of me and make many, many videos of the dog but heck I would not breed to him, no way. I appreciate the dog and that's where things end.

From a breeding stand point, I would have thought one would keep him for breeding purpose hoping that the dog will reproduce itself in the pups even to a light degree but obviously that's not the case with Boban, unfortunately. Other than that, I guess one could use a dog like that in harsh environments; in Romania some have problems with gypsies who would regularly rob them. A Boban would fit in the picture really well.

That's actually true. While many strive to have this type of "tough dog", ever since having Hun and Briska, I learned that actually a calm but serious dog is likely more "healthy" to have. Who needs unwanted surprises..? Boban went for the belly of his own owner, for no specific reason. He was sold soon after. The dog changed a few owners already. Out of respect for some people out there, I will limit the info to what I've said so far. But I am sure you get my drift.. I mean, yeah, we want tough dogs, but not to the point of being in danger. Like I said I still admire a dog that is tough to those extremes but such a dog NEEDS to be in then right hands. The irony is, if he does not reproduce anything good, from a GSD breeding point of view, the dog is useless.

He never reproduced himself His whole litter had problems and i am real sure if you find people with offspring you will see these still today. Now there is bloat in much of this line Having this dog is like hanging a picture on the wall all you can do is look. With out being able to breed the line there is no point to this. This is what it is about The SV banned these breed cause of many many problems how many dog do you know of the SV banning? I still say Jaq has something to do with this Boban being what he was and there are thing he did not tell anyone about Boban why do you think he sold him?Big problems for someone how what to breed

So much for Boban being man's best friend. He's beyond most to handle, unless you carry a machete..!

What can we say.. that's a shame.. nowadays we hardly see some really tough dogs and we like it or not, these dogs always have had some sort of x factor and some breed fans admired them but it sounds like as far as Boban goes, there's more to be said on the negative side.. that's such a shame..
John I guess bloat is in the line, big time. This keeps coming up.. again, such a shame..

When you find such a good dog you would have to think of breeding this dog so you can keep this type. But you can not do so when there are so many faults as he had past on. Even the women you was given Boban to breed did not keep him long maybe a year. And the pups from him did show the same problems that must be why he was sol.Now he was sold again and again. If you do see any sons or daughters of his you do not say WOW. You have to think there is more to the dog then how he looks or if he bits or not or how much drive he has or does not have. But if you can not breed this dog with out many major problems it is just not useful to try and breed for future stock

Good point John.. why the heck keep a dog like that.. sure he is impressive but really, how far is that going to go..? When one draws a line, one learns he could do without a Boban (no disrespect to those who love the type). Like I said I like the dog itself, as an individual.

Dani while it is good to keep a good like this for reasons. We all must think of carrying-on the breed as it should be.Dogs like this come along and it is a concern when we have to decide it is not good to use them. I know you and i talk about breeding often and all the dogs from that line are the real ddr type.It is to bad the problems are so many.

Yeah... it's the breed, man, isn't it... health and temperament issues are there in the mix and responsible breeders are doing what they can to avoid that when breeding..

What I seen and heard in the last 2 decades is breeders like to take advantage of naive and inexperienced new ententhusiasts. Making claims of there new import stock is top class. Even to the point of stating that this is the Stud dog, when in actual fact is not. A black dog is a black dog and easy to manipulate the mating. Paper work is all manipulated and misleading.

I keep hearing that mean.. I understand and respect that you guys don't mention names and let me just say some of these names are being talked about in other (online) places. It's not the nature of this forum to have an eye on these people but be sure to know things don't go unnoticed. While I support the idea of breeding to a no-paper dog that PROVES to produce quality pups with different bitches, I also support the thought that this type of breeding should be done on "opened stage", I guess kind of like I did with Axa's second litter. Also, I believe that, in some cases, one who buys a dog that has a parent different to that specified on paper, but the dog is actually smashing good, if one then goes ballistic over the paper detail, one is a bit of a weirdo, if they wanted a good dog and not have breeding in plan. If I would not breed GSD's, I couldn't care less if my dog came from a paper mother and a no paper father (or the other way around) as long as the dog is all I want it to be. But the truth remains that, one who strives to serve the breed, has to consider papers. I will say though, that this very truth or concept is under attack, since most of the paper "top" dogs of our days are "crap" dogs (excuse my choice of words). That is one of the reasons I chose to go to John, as I try and stay close to the old blood as much as that is possible, since "modern" blood is compromised. That's my most noble option (old blood with papers), my second option being to look at old school, no paper dogs. Am not afraid to admit it. But even there, I've seen some of those old school dogs producing pups and they DO NOT reproduce themselves (with some exceptions)... so again one has to stop and think and do things "by the book".. genes!

Thanks once again for the post Dani and the compliments from you guys. She is a solid bitch with many special qualities, we are thrilled to have her. She has that forechest and head we want to reproduce over and over.. Held Ritterberg style :)

She has Don v Trafalga 8 times in the 8 generations - via Stobar Hardt and Security Pekahia. Combined with Fax Grenzganger and Gento v haus Larwin several times in the 6 generations. I just picture that Tara v Wildenbruch look about her as an adult.

Thanks Dani And Ye I guess the eyes are smaller possibly like Nero. And the body is around the same with extra thick coat. 64 cm 40 kg. I tried to get an old school type photo about his stance and expression. He's a cool relaxed dog for today's laws here in Aus..

To be honest I'm beginning to like "cool relaxed" dogs, DDR type suits my needs just fine. Cool relaxed dog with good defense and fight - that's what I like.

Its more suited for the the suburbs and breeding this type is most logical with todays laws. He can be free with pulic and other dogs in the park,no problem him being a threat. But he won't allow to be touched, he makes that clear. He has that control with power..!

Hun doesn't even look at any dog around if I got anything in my hand. He's ok with people but starts barking if anyone stands close to me for more than a minute or two. I like that about him.

I know what you mean about the obsession. The drive is very high with the blodline I'm aiming to reproduce constantly. From dried up grape leaves to picking up bricks, my last two dogs have been insane to have somthing in the mouth to chew. Casso has natural suspicion and has matured nicely in confidence with reading the situation. I'm happy to see one day soon his genetics passed on.

Well Ye if those genetics were easier to come by, otherwise we need Lotto luck..

Well said.. it's like John said, there was ONE Held, ONE Zorro, ONE Ingo and so on.. one combines good genetics and then boom, a spark somewhere and one gets something that has the X factor.

Thanks Sam Yes some extra Stobar Hardt and Ex v Riedstern DDR sharpness. I think with Vello sieben.. multiple times up close with Bodo & Bernd Rolf Osnobrucker lineage I very much like. Keep the blood tight for the next decade..
