I watched Ed Frawley's videos of the 89 DDR Sieger and I clearly noted the east Germans by that time already bred more angulated dogs.... Even Viktor ad Westsachsen who's looks I actually like, seems to be a pretty angulated dog.

Eu stiu doar o poza cu Mentor pe net, am mai gasit-o acum si pe asta

Yes that  is what I believe, that the look changed as the East Germans started to breed more for looks as that sold well in the West.

Would it be fair to say that with the transformation of body type, that the character also changed to more of a 'softer' dog if i can call it...!
To cater for those in the West..

I guess you will have to wait until you see the first protection sessions on video here to get an answer to that question
To be honest all we can do is make presumptions as we were not present there in those days. But let me say this, these pups I got right now are something special (so far) with the male being less keen on being pet/groomed and growls often (you will see plenty videos in the coming weeks) this afternoon he actually showed his teeth as I teased him but I didn't have the camera with me. Then there's the female who is ever so lively and courageous.. believe me I am on a "journey" of monitoring these pups as I really like what i see so far.
My prediction is, the female will be a lot like Briska (very lively and playful) and the male will be one heck of a guard dog, actually reminds me of Ben (not enjoying "sweet stuff" a bit more "serious" and growls a lot). I guess time will tell if I am right about this.. and of course I'll do my best to keep you all up to date.

...just to add, one of the major reasons I wanted to get to John is because he actually has blood that's the closest (at least in my view) to the old blood. I think Held and Don when I say that. John saw something in these dogs back some years ago that no one else did.

We can take John's word for it as he has witnessed the bloodlines in person and has had some cracker of original unique DDR dog's, such as Sammy D who looks like a beast..
Can't wait for the video's Dani and maybe you can ship me over some of that Ostschutz genetics down this part of the world..

The videos will surely come and the genetics you talk about will be seriously considered.

As far as John's dogs, you should see some of them live, you should see that Bo Jetta, she got the build of a Rottie..
