Title: Two Eagles' Goku of Zimbris
Post by: RogerW on February 12, 2011, 05:08:33 AM
Dinner and a bath.  This puppy has VERY strong nerve, great personality and huge bone.  He has taken to me like we are long lost buddies.  Even after the long trip, after his bath he wanted to play.   I think this pup will be a VERY good one.

I only took these two quick pics last night, but believe me you will see many pics of Goku, formerly...Datko Zimbris.

Cina si baie. Acest catel are nervi FOARTE puternici, personalitate grozava si osatura groasa.

Congratulations for the puppy!
He lost some weight from the trip, but I think in a few days we won't recognize him.

Thanks so much, Santos!
Yes, hard on pups to make a trip that long, but he has recovered mentally just fine and as you say, will be up on his weight and growing great in days.  I can tell a difference already.   I have high hopes for this puppy.

Multumesc mult, Santos!
Da, greu pentru pui sa faca asa drum lung, insa s-a recuperat mental foarte bine si asa cum spui si tu, va recupera si cu greutatea in cateva zile. Deja se poate vedea diferenta. Am asteptari mari pentru acest pui.

yes... his chest was (and apparently still is..) one of his great "points"  :)
From Goku, I expect huge bust, huge head and really "serious" look in the eyes. Dino - huge legs and... crazy attitude!

When come to dog, their front legs called leg, their back legs, call leg too .... look at your muscle hand, quite similar  :teasing:

Title: Re: Two Eagles' Goku of Zimbris
Post by: RogerW on February 21, 2011, 10:27:21 AM
I'm going to lose some mass, because I've been eating too good...at least too much!   Tired of it.

Anyway, yes Goku is growing and we just had fun out in the front yard again, those pics were taken two days ago I think, maybe three.   I took some a while ago, I will see if any turned out...the dog is seldom still. lol   He does have a very big chest and a very thick neck, which I like a lot.  I liked it on his sire and he is going to have one, also.   You can just see the wheels turning behind his eyes, he is a real thinking dog.   I so look forward to him grown, but I am also really enjoying the time I spend with him every day, day and night.  He is very easy to keep, he has not made one mess in my house at all.   He goes to his kennel on the back deck when I let him out of the house, or goes in the front and plays with the two females....and he will go "talk" to Drago a little bit.  I think he's intrigued by Drago.
He is a gorgeous animal, and I love his personality, also...at least with me.  He has not come completely to an understanding with Collin and Susan yet.  He will go past them and kiss their hands, but he doesn't really want to trust them much.   I think in time he will be almost as close to them as me, but he is bonded very hard to me and has been from the very first.

what a fine description of the pup..
in the long run, I am picturing him to look like his sire but with more black.. if he gets that thick neck of his dad.. oh boy..

This may sound a little crazy, but he's so beautiful to me I can hardly stand it. lol   I have had two black dogs that I love so much, too....it's ridiculous, but it seems like once you have a really good German Shepherd, you immediately want another one, maybe a different color or size or whatever, but they are very addicting.   I could just look at him all day long.

M-as putea holba la el toata ziua.

off-topic - to keep my "meat" on, I need to eat a lot. 3 - 4 workouts (high intensity style, as Dorian Yates puts it) plus loads of good food and good night rest is the perfect recipe for me.. but I have problems nailing the last 2 on the list

not to dramatize this or pumping words to feed my ego but, I wouldn't be surprised if in the long run you notify me that he had a go at 'the boss", having watched his 'arguments' with young Dino (and I posted some of those, in the forum).

this is the one I like.. I think i can tell what's going through his mind

Yes, I know what was going on in his mind, also, I think.   "Just wait, silly bitch."

I think I mentioned to you that from watching the videos of both him fighting the alpha back at the food plate, and humping the most outwardly alpha dominant puppy, that this Goku was going to steadily increase in strength.   Seeing his immediate recovery time when he experiences new things, only strengthens my feelings.

...man.. with comments like this, I only get more "stirred" to monitor Goku and Dino in the long run.. you know, I think many times we look at the working abilities (or lack of those) but not say much about personality - and yet that plays such an important part!
Title: Re: Two Eagles' Goku of Zimbris
Post by: RogerW on February 21, 2011, 01:08:40 PM
Working ability is part genetics and part training...and sometimes very much training unless exposed during real work.

But fighting back when a stronger pup wants his food?   Humping the dominant pup?  That's pure genetics.

Roger he and Dino are real great dogs.

I don't think there is much between then now interms of shape and size only differences in personalities.

Dani What you think?

But yours seems to have a real think neck and deep chest.  Wow!

What you been feeding him??

I have just spent around 20 minutes admiring the photos of him.  Am sure he will have an amazing and unique build and shape.  As far as his temprement is concerned I think it speaks for itself when you and Dani have been giving us an insight into it.

Again thanks for the pics.

I think "time", as that is the element left to show what comes of these pups. At this moment in time, i would say Dino will be bigger (taller) than Goku, and will have his sire's legs and independent temperament. Goku will be a more "defensive" dog and somewhat "calmer' than Dino, who is "loud" by default  lol   Goku will have a more compact body and I think his head will look a little bit like Happy's, while Dino's head will be closer to his father's.
Actually, you guys can test my ability to "predict" all these things, when time for protection work will come. I say, Goku will do a more defensive, aggressive work (take it really seriously). Goku will bite to protect his boss, Dino will bite because he wants to BE the boss.    ;)

Thanks Zak!  I feed a dog food called Exceed Lamb and Rice, but I supplement it with raw turkey necks...although he has stopped liking them and I will move on to something else.  It may be because he is teething, or about to, I don't know.
Don't worry about pics, Zak, in the last 2 or 3 years I started taking a lot of pictures of my dogs so that I could take notes and have it to look back on....so you will see plenty of pictures!

Thanks Roger,

Turkey necks sounds good.  I found my dog would get the runs when I gave him bones.  Although he is ok with raw meat.

Do you giver your dogs bones and if so what kind?
Any tips?

Multumesc Roger,

gat de curcan, suna bine. Cainele meu are probleme daca ii dau oase.
ceva sfaturi?

I would only give my dogs raw cow bones (spine bones particularly, they love those)

Thanks MS!!  Yea, Goku's legs are just about as big around as Drago's now...lol, probably not, but they're big.

Zak I feed raw chicken, for little pups just chicken and turkey necks and then for older pups goku's age or older I will give them chicken leg quarters every now and then, not every day.   You just have to make sure it's raw...can't be microwaved, boiled, cooked in any way at all or the bones will splinter and could kill them.
But I've never had a dog have problem eating raw chicken and chicken bones, although all I usually feed them is the legs and thighs.  (and necks for babies).

It is a little concerning to some people about the raw chicken bones, but think about how many dogs have killed chickens and not died.   They're ok, as long as they are not cooked in any way.  IMO

Multumesc MS!

Parerea mea.

Yes, only cow bones, and only raw! Sometimes I boil the bone to get only the spine.  :)
Anyway, it's well known that chicken, fish or lamb bones are very dangerous for dogs and completely contraindicated, not mentioning the pork (meat and bones!)

Uneori fierb osul pentru a scoate maduva doar.  :)
hehe... Desa killed and ate 2 chicken not long ago, she is just fine  lol
Well, I wouldn't let her repeat that action too often. I always thought that in cases where it's possible it's better to prevent than to treat.

I agree with Thara that i would rather stay away from the element of risk, but then also, i consider wolves in the wild when they are lucky and hunt some gees or whatever.. also, Ben and Uzi used to hunt doves and eat them, they never had one tiny problem.

No, carnivores have no problems with bones as long as they aren't cooked in any way.  If you boil, microwave or bake or fry or any other way of heating bones, that is what causes them to be brittle and splinter off.
People always believed chicken bones were bad for dogs because they gave them left overs and that will kill them, or can.
I do not want to make anyone uncomfortable though, if they are with feeding raw chicken legs and thighs.  I think it's very good for them, though.

Now, pork, neither raw or cooked is good for dogs, they do not have the right enzymes to break pork down and it can cause much trouble.   I do not ever feed pork to dogs.

The risk still exists. By feeding the dog constantly with forbidden foods the risk to happen something wrong is high, in my oppinion. As it says, "accidents may happen" - about dogs who hunt pigeons or other birds but it's not recommended to feed the dog deliberate with forbidden foods.
The moment that you feed your dog deliberate and constantly with chicken bones or other dangerous bones, the risk to happen something bad increase.
I attach a picture with chicken bones, broken, to see how bad they look.

Thanks guys for the advise.

I have fed him raw meat from time to time mainly beef, chicken, kidney, liver and heart.

I will try chicken legs and see how he does. To be fair he has a good stomach and can digest most types of food.

I have been keeping my latest addition kinda quite. My brother with his family recently moved out into his new home and took Rocky with him.  He had been begging me for months and I finally gave in plus his kids had also taken to him.

We bought another pup from the same sire he is now 10 months called Rambo.  He is also old school type I will post pics of him soon once weather gets bit better and I work out how to do.

I think it may be the one that titled "old type gsd (DDR ype)" on utube and on your website.  It shows the sire Dino on a chain behind the fence.

By the way thats had over 2663 views!

It is an amzaing video of the sire.

Roger that part of the video also got my heart raising! especially when he walks round in a circle.  I must have paused it over 30 times admiring each movement and shape of the dog.

The majority of GSD working dogs these days have finer coat.
The thicker coat gives the impression of a massive dog with thick neck, especially if it has a monster head like Titus Pohranicini straze...!

I think that will look good in black. :)

Roger you should check out ONYX AND THE BEES on you tube..

Thanks guys.  Leo, I hope Draga is doing well!!

The ears do make a difference, don't they?     John gave me the suggestion to get him some knucklebones to strengthen his jaws and the muscles around his ears.   John knows what he's talking about!!  ;)   Within the week his ears were standing.

He is very thick with heavy bone, and his chest is so deep it almost feels abnormal to me to run my hands down his rib cage from both sides.  He is going to go for another parvo booster maybe Monday, and then I will start getting him out of the yard.  I have a feeling he will never be social to anyone but his family, just a gut feeling.   I think he will grow to be very socially aggressive and territorial.  He likes the other dogs ok (to sniff noses through the fence) but he can't tolerate them getting close to his kennel where his toys or food is.  He loves to watch Drago play with all his extreme drive, he thinks Drago is cool.

Looking really nice with his build and thicker coat, which has the type of look which was more common in the 80's.

Just wondering if he has responded in defense to any strangers ?

Yes, he has already acted in a defensive manner towards the Airconditioner repairmen that were in my driveway.    His tail was up and he was barking at them right at the fence as close as he could get, like all the other dogs.   He is next to Drago, learning that behavior, but I know for a fact it's in his genetics very strong.

This pup is full of natural suspicion of all people but me.   I believe he needs to see people are NOT a threat to him or me for a long time and until he's mature enough to handle the truth, even if he suspects the truth now.   Then he will be a man, and it won't matter.  It's in him.   Just riding in a vehicle with me, seeing the world outside our little space will up his genetic predisposition for protection.   Walking through the park full of people will show him that just because someone is standing there, doesn't mean they need to be bitten.
I have not made up my mind between training him to be a machine that has great OB or just letting him be a dog with minimum OB and minimum bite training. ..minimum until he's mature and then test him.    I am leaning towards the latter, because I don't think we can really see a dog for what he is if he is baby stepped through training stages.   If I just leave him as a dog to see the true dog, he may very well convince me that he needs to be bred upon.  If he is what I think he is, there aren't many like him, around here anyway.  From what I see now, he is a one man wall dog.  And that ain't bad.  :)

Roger I was just "scanning" the topic from its first posts.. you are an artist in your own right, this will very likely turn into some kind of a story, the way you present details etc. We can so clearly see how you offer your love to Goku..
well done sir!

Collin will be 10 on April 5th, and is pretty tall for his age.  His head is chest high to me, and I'm 6'1.
You can see Goku standing next to him in one of those pics....Goku is knee high to me, Susan says she can almost watch him growing while he is standing there. lol    I don't think he will be huge, but then I didn't think Drago would be nearly as big as he is, either.

With some exceptions, he looks like he's taking after Axa. I bet he barks like Axa, too. Happy also looks like his mom and barks like her as well. He looks a bit funny with such long legs and body, Axa went through an exact "season" in her youth. Give it a few more months, get some popcorn and watch Goku change some more  ;)
Hey Roger, do you realize it's been ages since last time you posted a pic..?

Goku arata amuzant cu picioarngele alea, Axa a trecut si ea printr-o perioada de-asta in tineretea ei. Mai asteapta cateva luni, cu ceva popcorn in brate si urmareste cum Goku se schimba in continuare ;)

The picture before last, with Collin in the frame - Goku looks like he definitely got his dam's head look, although I remember he was shooting for a much thicker neck and muzzle; it will be interesting to note the next changes in terms of looks.

What I am trying to underline though is, I would want my dog to look as described in the breed survey, not WIN conformation shows, for all I care conformation shows was what pulled the breed down anyway.

Goku is a tall type of dog and has similar fine coat as Axa which gives him more of a sleek look, generally taller dogs are more slim overall and this i believe is better for there hips and elbows IMO..

here you go, sir ;)  please note Axa's presence (head up, eyes on Dux) as opposed to the more classic 'show ring run'  (also minute 0:45 - 0:52)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o54O3wB0i-M

I estimate Goku will have a somewhat straighter back than Axa's due to his sire's "oldschool" build. But if Roger had a mindset similar to mine, the back "look" wouldn't make a top concern.. or else I'm in the wrong forum here

Thanks for the comments my friends!
My friend, Mat Egan (that posted that comment about the straight back on FB) was being sarcastic and funny.  He has been working dogs for 20 years and loves a straight back GSD, and can't stand a deformed GSD.    Leo, anyone is welcome on my thread! lol     Your dogs look great!

Goku has been shooting straight up, getting his height and length.  He has 2 years or more to fill out, I think he will be a hoss.

Roger, i got a feeling you will post some fine looking images of Goku, in one year from now. I will look hard on my external HDD and try and find some pictures of Axa when she was about Goku's current age. You will see how dramatically she changed in the course of time. I'm not saying this because you got Goku from me, anyone who knows me would also know that, I am just saying I am noticing some development particularities in Goku that I also saw in Axa.

Goku looks very nice! He has plenty time to develop and he's still very young, as far as I know, males tend to develop until around the age of 2 years, maybe even more, in some cases. I believe he will be a very good looking male!

Axa has now a new home and so I'd rather post images of her in a topic like this, who will be updated more often than not, as opposed to Axa's own. With that in mind, here's some images of her which I don't remember posting at all in our forum. This is when she started took good, after her "donkey" period ;)  If you look closely, you will note she looks rather slim, but her back / spine was already looking much better.
Images are not that good, as they are actually frames extracted form a video clip. In the first picture, one would think Dux was drooling

Ok I found the actual video, out of which the above frames were extracted.
There's a reason why I want to post this as well, i would like us to compare the future footage of Goku in training and spot the similarities.

These pictures show better the "less attractive" features of Axa at (about) 7 months old. She had length of bones but less harmony (high croup, long "slim" legs)

Thanks for sharing these pictures Roger, he's grown a lot and only after seeing these pictures I can define "a lot" as far as his growth..
Both Goku's parents have big, deep chests so give it some more time and he will look yet more impressive.

I really like this one

He looks bigger every morning. lol    He is such a good pup, Dani, I think he will do very well.   I have been remiss about socializing my dogs, but this one is going to start going everywhere with me.   Collin starts swimming lessons next month, so for 4 days a week I will take Goku to the park waiting for Collin's lessons to be over.   He needs to be around people, not fawned over, just to see that there are all kinds of people around.   I do not think I will do the first bite training for 8 months or so.

Even my wife loves this pup, and she was really getting tired of dogs.

I think with most herders they need to be baby-stepped from the start to get them working well, but I think with his genetics that the socialization is more important now so that he doesn't look at everyone as the enemy, which would make him another Drago and hard to live with.    As Bob said yesterday, we could work this dog right now, but he just hasn't seen enough people, and if we work him the way we work dogs he will look at everyone as someone that needs to be bitten.   Goku will always be somewhat suspicious of people and ready to defend...it is his nature I think; I want to be able to take him everywhere with me if I can.   Calm but ready.

Title: Re: Two Eagles' Goku of Zimbris
Post by: zimbris on June 09, 2011, 05:35:14 AM
Well that IS the very purpose of (correctly done) socialization. One is supposed to be able to take the dog anywhere, anytime. Also one needs to know for sure, control over the dog is not a problem. I too believe Goku will be the suspicious type and yes, good socialization is (always) good.
I am doing the same with Remus, who seems to go in "prey" anytime he sees someone carrying a stick of any sort. He looks like he's up for a fight in an instant and boy, I need to be "on stand by" as he is pretty powerful. So yeah, I am taking him to many places just so that he could learn to be "normal".

Pai, asta e si scopul socializarii (corect facute).

Even the power to imagine things is good, still brings along a smile from time to time.

I really like giving pregnant females deer meat daily.  I've never seen them bounce back so quick as when I do...it's like they never whelped.  It's great protein.

I need some great cold beer that doesn't have any calories. lol   Got to lose a LOT of weight.

hehe... he still has an athletic look, needs to "fill in the blanks" lol  Plenty space for adding some m/mass.. one year from now he will likely look very "serious". Looking at these more recent images, I would say he has now passed the "funny look" stage. I like the black / tan percentage...
I look at all the pictures and I note the deep chest. I am presuming all pups in the litter will inherit that, Axa has a deep one but goodness does the sire have one too  lol

oopsey.. just noticed your post now, although it's a fairly "old" one..
I probably wouldn't socialize him by allowing people to give him stuff, maybe not even touch him. Just having him stay around people. Just that. That is mainly because I wouldn't want him to be too friendly and maintain a certain degree of "unfriendliness" towards people he doesn't know. Man I love they way they do that with the Fila, the more aggressive the dog is towards the judge in a show, the better the judge actually sees the dog, hehe...

It all depends on how or what one needs the K9 for, i personally would not let others touch or approach my dog, especially in the early stages when most is absorbed.

I'm so sorry I haven't had time to comment on everyone's dogs, they all look fantastic!   Between trying to get in shape and taking care of the dogs, I have been working like crazy.    Just wanted to say that Goku is doing great and he has shown us some great signs, cannot wait to work him...we start him in Feb.
Pictures don't do him justice, he is a beautiful animal and very smart.   The last picture is my favorite, that's the one that looks the most like him to me...lol, I mean, the way I see him usually.

Ultima poza e favorita mea, cam asa il vad eu de regula (cum e in poza)

Just saying that, although he still got more room to fill in with mass, he won't look as thick as Hun for example, at this time of the year, because of the weather over there. It goes the same for John's dogs; take Enno for example - the dog is a powerhouse with insane bones but he looks very "dry" because of the heat; if I was to bring him over here during the cold season he would surely turn into a monster in terms of looks / size.
Same to say about Leo's dogs.

I don't know what anyone said (   ), but I appreciate you posting Goku's pics, Dani!

I think he is showing great instincts for what I like in a dog.  At the park that day, I walked him next to peope playing basketball on a court and he watched them but seemed to know they were supposed to be there.   However, when a man walked between where Susan and I were sitting and where Collin was playing, he went for him.   So hopefully he won't be just totally civil towards everyone like Drago and Brogan, but be more of a thinking dog ...and so far he has shown that several times.

When I realized that it was going to be fairly impossible to socialize Goku very much due to my circumstances, I knew that his genetics would be tested very hard by just letting him mature and then getting him out in public and working.   Well, he has excellent genetics, that's all I can say.

Are instincte excelente, asta e tot ce pot spune.

I believe those are the expectations a street police worker would have from a k9 partner, as you don't want the dog to bite everything that lives and moves.

:cheesy:

At training school focus should be on maintaining the reaction and to get him to have a balanced reaction towards the agitator, control as opposed to encouraging the grip

Just a quick picture and note to say Goku is doing well, training has been very sporadic, it will start in earnest in the Fall.  Just too hot for me to breathe well plus Bob is in them middle of moving.  Good news is he is setting up a 6 acre training field with lights where we can work at night.  So along with the storage units, the woods, the training field, and whatever real scenarios we can set up for the car and in alleys and such, I think it's time to get Goku's "real" training going soon.   He has great instincts, is very protective already.  I am going very slow with this dog, I want him to be what I want, not what people have necessarily come to expect when they see a video.
He is a beautiful animal, has an incredible frame and deep chest.  When he is fully matured in 2 years I expect him to be quite a specimen.  Note that I am 275lbs and 6'1, I usually make dogs look very small.  This dog is large but moves great and he can catch his own rabbits! lol    We love Goku Zimbris!!!

No, it's not just you.  lol   He got home and I guess the first thing they had planned to do was put their house up for sale and move on more land.   He had a nightmare of getting his house ready to sell, then it was sold before he had a chance to close on the house they were looking at.   So, he had to move all of their stuff to storage, some here, and move into his wife's parent's house which is a long way off.   Too far for either of us to have much of a chance of seeing each other.   Now he is just waiting for the house to be ready to move into.   And I am waiting...and waiting. lol   I can't complain, I'd rather wait on a great trainer than have sub-par training.

Thank you, Thara, I think he already is very nice looking, and will be even more so with time.  He's a character, we love him.

Dani, no idea.   I would guess 85 or 90lbs?

If Goku has the drive like his Dam he will do some pretty good work, and would be a workout swinging a 40kg male around to get those mesomorph guns pumped up Dani,  Axa is too light man...!!

In alte poze era ok, in acea poza nu, iar eu asta am zis.
Title: Re: Two Eagles' Goku of Zimbris
Post by: ben on December 01, 2012, 02:45:30 PM
Axa are chisitele ceva mai deschise, asta vroiam sa vezi in poze.

Actually he was "agitated" when he was a puppy, 8 months old or maybe a year.  No pressure.   I asked Bob to test him, and he did.   Came out of the woods with his little hardwood stick (which hurts like hell), a pinch here and there.  It's not often that you have a completely raw, unsocialized dog that's a blank slate for testing to see what it is.   All I have to say is that he is the real deal.   Bob will tell y'all the same thing.  After the first session he said, "don't you ever get rid of this dog."

I am a happy person.

Minimal indeed. This is pretty much starting point for this dog. Roger and Bob are testing him in various locations, conditions etc..

Goog is in good hands, and positive that the guys will develop him into a fine dog..
With genetics playing a major role..
